Berthold Marckwardt is a designer, a visual linguist, that seeks to inject a breath into the construct of his surroundings. Creating a space that allows for margins, in order to develop a freshness- a permutation. 

Adaptable, he is able to successfully navigate the ever-osculating boundaries of the explicit freedoms of personal endeavors to the more formal constraints of a communal environment, seeking the best way to innovate.  Working across mediums, Berthold sees fashion, installation, video, sculpture, and writing as kissing cousins.  He is able to see connections between these mediums, exploring them in ways that reincorporates them back into the social consciousness through the lens of his macerated pop culture tinged mind.

Berthold is focused on identity, place, categorization and their inevitable breakdown.  He is interested in the connections of imagery and ideas without an explicit appeasing commentary explaining the linkage. 

Transitions are fake.  He works in fracture. Exploring the I in me, in him, in you, in we.

Berthold Marckwardt has a Master of Design in Fashion, Body and Garment from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies from the University of Texas at Austin.
